Crawl when you encounter smoke when exiting.
Sleep with your bedroom door closed. If you hear your smoke detector active while you are sleeping go to the door and feel it with the back of your hand. If the door is hot go out the window.
If you live upstairs and your bedroom door is hot go to the window and open it. Shout out for help so someone will be able to find you.
Have a Fire Extinguisher Handy
Install extinguishers in the Kitchen, and Garage. Have at least one on evey level of the home.
Kitchen fires are the leading cause of residential fires in the United States according to the National Fire Protection Agency.
